Case Study: Treating Acne with Enzyme Therapy

Cosmeceutical treatments can be an effective way to treat a range of skin conditions as well as helping improving the overall look and condition of healthy skin. We recently helped a client with a bad case of acne to improve her skin significantly.

While acne mainly effects teenagers, some people are effected into adulthood. It occurs when the oil glands at the base of hair follicles are stimulated by hormones, typically during puberty. The sebaceous oil glands produce sebum, an oily liquid which carries dead skin cells up through the follicles to the skins surface. If the follicle becomes blocked it can result in oil building up under the skin, causing a pimple. In extreme cases it can cause scaring of the skin.

Our client had been suffering from acne for several years, and was looking for a way to help control her skin and reduce the number of pimples she suffered from.

As part of all skin treatments we perform an assessment at our North Melbourne salon. This enables us to decide what the best combination of cosmeceutical products will be, and what the treatment should involve. Cosmeceutical products are not available over the counter at chemists and are usually only sold at clinics with trained skin therapist like Airs and Graces.

For this client we decided that a combination of DMK products including the Enzyme Therapy would be most effective. The enzyme therapy transfers positive enzymes into the cells through reverse osmosis, removing toxins and other waste products to help clear the skin. It also helps to increase the uptake of oxygen into capillaries in the skin, improving oxygenation.

This client received monthly enzyme treatments at our Melbourne skin clinic for 4 months, along with a thorough home treatment plan. Our client’s home plan included using the DMK products below. These worked in conjunction with the enzyme treatment to clear blocked pores, reduce the amount of oil her skin produced and keep her skin dryer than it is naturally.

  • Beta Gel – a skin booster which reduces redness and inflammation.  It is a product good for people who suffer from acne, burns, sunburn, premature ageing and reactive or inflamed skin.
  • ACU-KLENZ – a cleanser designed to treat dry surface acne and prevent further breakouts
  • ACU Mist – a product for acne sufferers to restore very important acid mantle.  It is designed to eliminate acne causing bacteria and increase skin hydration
  • ACU Masque – a home masque recommended for acne, congestion, blackheads, open pores and dull or oily skin
  • EFA+ – Essential Fatty Acid supplement

The effect on the clients skin was dramatic, as shown in the below before and after pictures. Our client is continuing with both the monthly enzyme treatments & home plan and we expect to see further improvements.
